| The Federal Inspection
Services Facility (FIS) is a key component of the North Terminal Development
(NTD) at Miami International Airport. The elements of the program include:
Immigration and Naturalization (INS) & U.S. Customs, now known as “Homeland
Security Border Control”; Animal, Plant and Health Inspection Services
(APHIS); the Department of Fish and Wildlife; and the Center for Disease
Control.
This 400,000 sf facility requires careful
collaboration between the many other entities participating in the North
Terminal Development. The design coordination and subsequent construction
phasing is critical, since the project interfaces with numerous others.
The facility will occupy existing concourse and terminal areas as well
as new space built as part of the North Terminal Development Concourse
C to D infill project.
The facility is capable of processing 4,000
international passengers per hour.
