The
FIU Green Library is the largest single construction contract in the 25 year
history of FIU. The center piece of the main campus, this expansion
required fast tracked, phased construction to add 200,000 sq ft to the
existing 70,000 sq ft library. The eight story addition was added
to the building in a carefully staged and sequenced manner that allowed
the existing library to remain fully functional throughout construction. Upon request of the owner, the library has been designed to accommodate eight additional floors as expansion becomes necessary.
Since the expansion of the library, MCHarry Associates has returned to the Green Library to remodel classrooms and office spaces as per the owner's request to meet their expanding needs.
The FIU Library expansion has received the
following awards:
Unbuilt Design Award by the Miami Chapter
of the AIA in 1996

Glass & Glazing from the Construction Association of South Floridain
2000
