The "jewel" of the renovated landside environment will be the Central Park and Promenade. The Park is functionally conceived to accommodate the leisure activities of waiting travelers, passenger greeters and numerous pedestrian circulation movements to and from the airport terminal, parking garages, ground transportation and marshaling space for this busy airport/seaport connection. The design concept introduces visitors to the colors and vibrant lighting of Miami's tropical environment and offers an artistic interpretation of tropical life in the trees. The paved plaza depicts the beige, pink and green of the sand, reef and sea grasses of the South Florida bays. The landscape palette, showcasing a wide variety of unusual tropical plants, complements the central water feature that symbolizes water as the critical element of regional sustainability.
