Miami Beach Collins Park Rotunda Renovation

Located in Collins Park, a nexus of cultural institutions and civic landscape, the project includes the complete renovation of the historic Rotunda Building to become an Arts Venue and the design of a 900 SF Addition to provide ADA access, restrooms, and utilities to serve the arts space. The Rotunda Building was originally the reading room of the 1962 library that formerly existed in the park.  The building was retained for its architectural and artistic significance; its circular plan cantilevered over a reflecting pool is clad with sand cast panels by artist Albert Vrana.  The scope includes the renovation of the existing unoccupied and unfinished Rotunda Building, including a new air conditioning system, new electrical system, new audio-visual system, new interior finishes, new window systems, new doors, a new accessible access ramp, and related site improvements.

The project received approval from the City of Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board (HPB), requiring careful adherence to historic preservation guidelines and coordination with the City preservation staff throughout the design and review process.  The project demonstrates MCHarry’s expertise in historic rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, accessibility integration, and the successful navigation of Miami Beach’s preservation review framework.
